ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

May 5 — Police talked to a driver who reportedly was driving fast and spinning tires at the county fairgrounds. No problems were found in checking on a disconnected 911 call from Scout House in Memorial Park.

May 6 — Police talked to residents about two possible scams and about two civil issues. No problems were found in checking on a report of a suspicious vehicle behind city hall. Letters were sent about city code violations. The downtown area was patrolled on foot.

May 7 — An unattended death in the 400 block of S. Birch St. was investigated. A driver was arrested on a Marion County warrant during a traffic stop at 1st and Washington Sts. Another driver was ticketed for going 81 mph in a 65-mph zone on US-56 at Adams St. More drivers were warned for making a J-turn in the 100 block of N. Main St., for having an expired license plate in the 100 block of E. D St., and for running a stop sign at Madison and D Sts. An alarm at Central National Bank accidentally was set off by a janitor. A suspicious vehicle reported in Memorial Park was not found.

Thursday — An unwelcome visitor was ejected from Oakwood Manor Apartments. Drivers were warned for speeding in the 100 block of N. Ash St. and for having overly tinted windows at 150th and Indigo Rds. Police talked to a resident about a civil issue and intervened in a child custody dispute in the 100 block of W. F St.

Friday — A reportedly reckless driver traveling from McPherson County was ticketed for going 82 mph in a 65-mph zone on US-56 near Adams St. Police talked to residents about a report of harassment and about a civil issue.

Saturday — Police helped resolve a dispute that had led to yelling in the 100 block of N. Lincoln St., checked on a false alarm at the Mennonite Brethren Foundation offices, aided a driver on US-56 at Adams St., and talked to residents about a parking violation and about an incident that occurred in Winfield. A dog was reported loose near D and Washington Sts.

Sunday — Police talked to residents about a possible fraud in which no money was missing and also about a civil issue. A driver was warned for speeding on US-56 at Orchard Dr.

MARION

May 5 — Drivers were warned for running a stop sign at Main and Freeborn Sts. and for speeding near US-56 and Industrial St. A resident of the 300 block of N. Cedar St. complained about a trespasser.

May 6 — A driver was warned for having an expired license plate near Cedar and Kellison Sts. No problems were found in checking on a disconnected 911 call from the 600 block of Walnut St.

May 7 — Police talked to residents about a parking complaint in the 600 block of Hudson St. and about bicycle registration in the 1000 block of E. Main St.

Thursday — A driver was ticketed for going 33 mph in a 20-mph zone on Main St. near Elm St. Other drivers were warned for having overly tinted windows near Main and Roosevelt Sts. and for having a defective headlight near US-56 and Timber Rd.

Friday — Drivers were warned for speeding near US-56 and Cedar St. and for having a defective headlight near Main and Locust Sts.

Saturday — A loose dog was returned to the 200 block of Tanglewood St. Police were unable to catch a dog loose in the 300 block of W. Santa Fe St. Suspicious activity reported in the 1500 block of E. Main St. was not found. Police checked on what turned out to be a false alarm in the 600 block of Walnut St. Police talked to a resident about a child custody issue, and the child involved was taken into protective custody.

Sunday — A 79-year-old woman required stitches at St. Luke Hospital after being bitten on the leg while trying to break up a fight between her dog and another dog in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St. Police checked on a resident of the 300 block of Elm St. A driver was warned for having a defective license plate light near US-56 and Industrial St.
