ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
June 9 — Police stood by during a civil matter at Barkman Honey, answered a resident’s questions about firearms, and heard about suspicious credit card activity.
June 10 — Police provided active shooter training for employees at Parkside Homes. Drivers were warned for speeding at D and Cedar Sts., for making a J-turn in the 100 block of W. Grand Ave., for having a headlight out in the 1000 block of E. D St., for having a brake light out in the 600 block of N. Ash St., for not using headlights properly in the 300 block of N. Ash St., and for having an obscured license plate in the 700 block of N. Ash St.
June 11 — A semi pulled down a cable line behind the American Legion post. Police helped a resident who overheated while walking, met with a resident at Casey’s General Store about mental health issues and a resident of the 300 block of S. Birch St. about an animal control issue, intervened with a family having issues with a 12-year-old, and found no problems in checking on a disconnected 911 call from the 700 block of W. A St.
Thursday — Police issued two tickets after dogs were reported loose in the 200 block of N. Lincoln St. A fender-bender in the Sonic Drive-In parking lot was investigated. No problems were found in checking on an alarm from the 400 block of N. Ash St.
Friday — Police helped a utility company locate a property owner and helped get several loose dogs back into a residence in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St. Another loose dog was captured and returned to a residence in the 300 block of N. Washington St. Police talked to a resident about a possible scam. A driver was ticketed for having an expired license plate in the 800 block of E. D St. A traffic stop in the 800 block of W. D St. led to an arrest on suspicion of the driver failing to register as an offender in Nebraska. Another traffic stop in the 300 block of W. 3rd St. led to an arrest on suspicion of transporting open containers of alcohol along with having a defective license plate light, improper use of turn signals, and failure to provide proof of vehicle liability insurance.
Saturday — Two drivers were arrested after traffic stops — one on outstanding warrants and suspicion of possession of drugs and paraphernalia after being stopped for a turn signal violation in the 100 block of N. Madison St. and the other on suspicion of drunken driving and drug possession after being stopped for speeding in the 900 block of E. D St. Other drivers were warned for not using a turn signal in the 300 block of S. Birch St. and for not wearing a motorcycle helmet in the 900 block of S. Ash St. Police arranged a tow for a driver at US-56 and Goldenrod Rd.
Sunday — An unattended death was reported in the 400 block of N. Ash St. Police helped Drug Enforcement Administration agents attempting to contact a former resident. Drivers were warned for equipment violations in the 100 block of S. Washington St. and for having a headlight out in the 100 block of W. 3rd St.
MARION
June 9 — Police investigated a parking complaint in the 200 block of E. Santa Fe St., helped the sheriff’s office with an injury accident near US 77 and 150th Rd., and conferred with Harvey County deputies about a case in their county.
June 10 — A juvenile reported as a runaway from the 600 block of S. Roosevelt St. was found a short time later at his grandparents’ residence. No problems were found in checking on a disconnected 911 call from the 500 block of S. Freeborn St.
June 11 — An unattended death was reported in the 700 block of S. Freeborn St. Trespassing was reported in the 1200 block of Commercial St. Two drivers were warned for speeding near US-56 and Cedar St., and another was warned for speeding near Main St. and Eisenhower Dr. No problems were found in checking on residents of the 700 block of S. Freeborn St. and the 400 block of N. Freeborn St. No evidence was found of suspicious activity reported in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St.
Thursday — Three light bars for squad cars were stolen from a sheriff’s department storage locker in the 1100 block of Industrial St. A driver was ticketed for failing to secure a trailer after a wreck near Main and 2nd Sts. Trespassing was reported in the 400 block of E. Main St. Police helped a resident with a rooftop air conditioner. A resident complained about utility work being done on a city easement. Drivers were warned for speeding near Main and 1st Sts. and near US-56 and Cedar St. No problems were found in checking on a disconnected 911 call from the 1500 block of E. Main St.
Friday — Police could not catch a dog loose near Main and Cedar Sts. Drivers were warned for failing to signal a turn near Main and Freeborn Sts., for having a defective license plate light near Main and 2nd Sts., and for having a defective headlight near Main and Billings St. The department’s drug-sniffing dog, Blue, was deployed for an arrest in Hillsboro.
Saturday — Blue again was deployed for an arrest in Hillsboro. Police helped sheriff’s deputies investigate a complaint at Marion County Lake. Drivers were warned for having a defective tag light near US-56 and Timber Rd. and for running a stop sign near Main and Roosevelt Sts.
Sunday — Nothing reported.
