ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies typically are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

Aug. 18 — Police trained Goessel school employees about dealing with active shooters. A resident complained about cars speeding by the city’s new day care center on Elm St. Police stood by during a civil matter involving the city’s electrical department in the 200 block of Kennedy St. A homeowner asked about evicting someone from a house. A disturbance in the 300 block of S. Ash St. proved to be verbal only. A disconnected 911 caller from the 700 block of S. Washington St. was not found.

Aug. 19 — Police talked to a resident about a parking issue at Wilson and A Sts. and helped a motorist at Orchard Dr. and US-56.

Aug. 20 — Police talked to a resident about a traffic complaint, helped a motorist at US-56 and Adams St., and checked on an unoccupied vehicle off the roadway at US-56 and Ash St.

Thursday — Police talked to a resident about a dog complaint in the 600 block of S. Ash St. A dog also was reported loose at 3rd and Washington Sts. A patient was taken to Prairie View mental health center in Newton. A driver was warned for speeding in the 900 block of S. Ash St. Streetlights were checked for the city’s electrical department.

Friday — A noise complaint in the 900 block of W. D St, was investigated A driver was warned for running a stop sign at Wilson and A St. Police investigated a dog complaint at Adams and 2nd Sts., met with school administrators about a court-supervised visitation, and talked to two residents about civil issues. No problems were found in checking on a resident of the 300 block of W. Grand Ave.

Saturday — Police helped Hillsboro Community Hospital staff deal with a patient, stood by during a civil matter in the 300 block of N. Washington St., and investigated a traffic complaint on US-56.

Sunday — Police helped the Department of Children and Families with an investigation. They could not find a person whose call to 911 from a men’s dorm at Tabor College was disconnected.

MARION

Aug. 18 — Police found no evidence of animal abuse reported in the 100 block of W. Santa Fe St. A bicycle found in the 200 block of Forest St. didn’t match one reported as missing. Drivers were warned for speeding at Main and 2nd Sts., for illegal display of a license plate at US-56 and Industrial Rd., and for equipment violations at Main and 2nd Sts. and at US-56 and Timber Rd.

Aug. 19 — A drunken driver reported in the 1000 block of E. Main St. was not found. A wreck in the parking lot of Carlsons’ Grocery was investigated, but no accident report was released.

Aug. 20 — A report of stalking remains under investigation. Police helped the Department of Children and Families with an investigation in the 400 block of N. Roosevelt St. Two drivers were warned for equipment violations at US-56 and Cedar St. and a third was warned at Eisenhower Dr. and Denver St.

Thursday — Police decided no crime was committed after investigating a disturbance in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. A dog loose in the 600 block of Sherman St. was not captured. Drivers were warned for equipment violations at US-56 and Cedar St., 3rd and Library Sts., and again at US-56 and Cedar St. and for speeding at Main and Elm Sts. and US-56 and Timber Rd.

Friday — A person reportedly attempting to jump from a bridge on K-256 west of Vine St. was found by sheriff’s deputies on K-15 north of US-56. A driver was warned for speeding at Main and 1st Sts.

Saturday — Police and sheriff’s deputies served an order of protection from abuse in the 200 block of S. Lincoln St. A driver was ticketed for going 95 mph in a 65-mph zone at US-56 and Cedar St. Other drivers were warned for an equipment violation at US-56 and Industrial St. and for speeding at Main and Roosevelt Sts. and at US-56 and Cedar St., where the driver also was ticketed for having no proof of liability insurance. Police and deputies investigated a drunken driving report at US-56 and Cedar St.

Sunday — A burglary in the 200 block of S. Freeborn St. was investigated. Two drivers were warned for equipment violations at US-56 and Cedar St.
