ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies generally are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

Nov. 24 — Routine activities.

Nov. 25 — A suspicious person reported at Ampride left before police arrived. Police met with management at Sonic Drive-In for a follow-up investigation.

Nov. 26 — Police notified city crews about a water leak in the 200 block of W. B St. A crime victim was told to contact the county attorney to ask about progress of a case. A driver was warned for an equipment violation at Ash and Washington Sts.

Thanksgiving — Parents were present when police arrived to check on a small child near ponds at Memorial Park. Police helped a driver at Ash and B Sts. and checked city streetlights for the city electric department.

Friday — Police talked to a resident about a civil issue and went to the city compost site on E. Orchard Dr. where smoke was coming from heater vents in the cab of a truck. A dog reported to be loose at Washington and D Sts. was not found. A driver was warned for running a stop sign in the 100 block of N. Ash St.

Saturday — Its owner was reported to be looking for the dog loose at Washington and D Sts. Drivers were warned for speeding in the 400 block of Orchard Dr. and for running a stop sign at Ash St. and Grand Ave.

Sunday — A possibly intoxicated driver in the 400 block of S. Ash St. was not found. A door was reported open at Hillsboro Middle School.

MARION

Nov. 22 — Marion’s drug-sniffing police dog, Blue, was deployed during a traffic stop by sheriff’s deputies on US-50 just west of Florence. An offense report still has not been released by the sheriff’s department. However, jail records indicate that Andrew L. Smith, 47, Norton, was arrested on suspicion of distributing methamphetamine, possessing drug paraphernalia, speeding, failing to display a license plate, having no tax stamp for drugs, and driving while his license was canceled, suspended, or revoked. He was jailed in lieu of posting a $50,000 bond.

Nov. 23 — A trespasser was reported at Marion County Ace Hardware. No problems were found in checking on a disconnected 911 call from Grant St. A driver was warned for speeding at US-56 and Timber Rd.

Nov. 24 — A loose dog was returned to its owner. A driver was warned for an equipment violation at US-56 at Timber Rd.

Nov. 25 — Police helped a state trooper and a sheriff’s deputy with a traffic stop on US-77 south of K-256 / 190th Rd. No offense report has been released by Kansas Highway Patrol, but jail records indicate that Chris D. Carr, 44, Peabody, was arrested on suspicion of possessing stimulants and drug paraphernalia. He was released nine hours later after posting a $15,000 bond. Drivers were warned for equipment violations at Roosevelt and Kellison Sts., at Main and 4th Sts., at Cedar and Hudson Sts, and at US-56 and Timber Rd.

Nov. 26 — Police and ambulance workers went to Carlsons’ Grocery where a customer briefly was detained because he was thought to be suffering from low blood sugar. Three drivers were stopped at US-56 and Cedar St., one at US-56 and Timber Rd., and one on US-77 near 140th Rd. One was ticketed for speeding. The others were warned for equipment violations.

Thanksgiving — Officers conducted stopped two drivers on US-56 and Timber Rd. and one on US-56 at Cedar St. Two were warned for speeding, and one was ticketed for driving with a suspended license. An unoccupied vehicle at US-56 and Industrial St. was tagged for towing. Police helped a sheriff’s deputy search a vehicle at the US-56/77/K-150 roundabout.

Friday — Police helped ambulance attendants with a call at Homestead Senior Residences. Drivers were stopped at Main and 2nd Sts., Main and Coble Sts., and Main and Elm Sts., and two were stopped at US-56 and Cedar St. Four were ticketed for equipment violations, and one was warned for speeding.

Saturday — Police went to the 500 block of N. Freeborn St. for a report of a possibly suicidal person. Peabody police also were there and reportedly arrested someone on unspecified charges. No corresponding arrest appears on jail records. Three drivers were warned for equipment violations at US-56 at Cedar St.

Sunday — Police helped a deputy check on a resident of Lakeshore Dr. at the county lake. A driver was warned for speeding at US-56 and Cedar St.
