ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies generally are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

Dec. 21 — Police interceded in a disagreement over dogs in the 100 block of N. Birch St. and helped Peabody police with a situation there.

Dec. 22 — A resident complained about a dog in the 200 block of S. Date St. Police helped a Chase County deputy with an investigation.

Dec. 23 — A child who walked away from a home in the 100 block of S. Lincoln St. was found unharmed. Police helped Herington police with an investigation and checked on a resident of the 200 block of S. Lincoln St.

Christmas Eve — Police again checked on a resident of the 200 block of S. Lincoln St.

Christmas — Residents complained about loud music in the 300 block of S. Birch St. and a dog loose in the 400 block of W. Grand Ave.

Dec. 26 — Police helped firefighters free a person trapped in a room after a doorknob fell off in the 300 block of S. Adam St. They also found a child riding a bike in the 300 block of N. Ash St. and notified his parents, who were not aware he was in the street. No problems were found in checking on an open museum door. Police again helped Herington police with an investigation. A resident talked to police about a civil matter.

Dec. 27 — A resident complained about a dog loose in the 100 block of S. Date St. A driver was warned for speeding at US-56 and Ash St.

Dec. 28 — Police directed traffic while firefighters extinguished a shed fire in the 300 block of N. Washington St. A person reportedly acting strangely at Subway was not there when police arrived. A dog was reported loose at C and Eisenhower Sts. Police again checked on a resident of the 200 block of S. Lincoln St. and again talked to a resident about a civil matter.

Dec. 29 — An unwanted visitor was told to leave Ampride and Subway. Police talked to an employer about an employee and to a resident about a civil matter.

Dec. 30 — Reports of sexual harassment and of violation of an order of protection from abuse remain under investigation. Police helped free kids accidentally locked in their bedroom in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. and helped Marion police deal with a domestic situation.

New Year’s Eve — A report of someone on top of the larger water tower near Tabor College could not be verified. A minor wreck at Main St. and Grand Ave. was investigated. Police checked on suspicious activity in the 300 block of S. Ash St., on a person sleeping in the parking lot of Hillsboro Community Hospital, and on a resident of the 200 block of S. Lincoln St.

New Year’s Day — Evidence was returned to its owner. Police checked city streetlights.

Friday — A resident reported that someone threw something on her car and drove off. A complaint alleging violation of a protective order remains under investigation. Police talked to a resident about a civil matter. A driver was warned for speeding at Ash St. and Grand Ave.

Saturday — Drivers were warned for making a J-turn in the 100 block of N. Main St. and for having a defective headlight at Ash and 2nd Sts. Police checked on a guest at Country Haven Inn.

Sunday — A resident complained about an animal in the 300 block of W. Grand Ave. Police helped a sheriff’s deputy at a domestic incident near K-15 and 200th Rd.

MARION

Dec. 21 — Police helped Peabody police with a situation there.

Dec. 22 — A resident at an undisclosed location reported an aggressive dog. Drivers on Main St. at 5th and 3rd Sts. were warned for speeding and making a J-turn.

Dec. 23 — A driver was warned for an equipment violation, and a passenger was ticketed for transporting an open container of alcohol in the Dollar General parking lot.

Christmas Eve — A reported violation of an order of protection from abuse was investigated in the 200 block of S. Freeborn St. Two loose dogs were taken to a veterinary clinic. Police checked on a resident of the 400 block of Locust St. Two drivers were warned for equipment violations on US-56 at Cedar St. and at Timber Rd.

Christmas — No evidence of a break-in was found in checking on an open door in the 500 block of N. Cedar St. Driver James J. Garrett, 47, Burlington, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol at US-56 and Timber Rd.

Dec. 26 — Police helped transfer custody of two children, were the first to arrive at a shed fire in the 200 block of N. 2nd St., help deputies with a traffic accident at K-150 and Xavier Rd., and checked on a resident of the 300 block of N. Roosevelt St.

Dec. 27 — Police again helped at a fire, this time a vehicle fire in the 100 block of S. Thorp St., and again helped deputies, this time with traffic stops at US-77 and K-256 / 190th Rd. A driver was warned for an equipment violation at US-56 and Cedar St.

Dec. 28 — Two drivers were warned — one for following too closely and the other for an equipment violation at US-56 and Cedar St.

Dec. 29 — A driver was warned for speeding, and another was ticketed for having no insurance at US-56 and Cedar St. and at Roosevelt and Kellison Sts.

Dec. 30 — Two dogs loose on the west side of town were taken to a veterinary clinic. Police determined that no crime was committed during a disturbance in the 200 block of S. Freeborn St. No problems were found when checking on a report of a person possibly needing medical help near Eastmoor United Methodist Church. A burglar alarm in the 400 block of S. Coble St. was accidentally activated. Police talked to a resident about a civil matter.

New Year’s Eve — A suicidal person in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St. was taken to a hospital.

New Year’s Day — Warnings were issued for speeding and equipment violations during traffic stops at Main and Elm Sts., Main and 5th St., and US-56 and Timber Rd. Police tested a driver’s sobriety at US-56 and Timber Rd.

Friday — A white truck reportedly was being driven erratically on Main St.

Saturday — An injury accident involving a mini-bike and an allegedly unlicensed driver was investigated. Three drivers were warned for speeding and equipment violations at Main and Cedar Sts. and US-56 and Cedar St. Police helped a sheriff’s deputy with a drunken driving investigation on US-50 near Union Rd.

Sunday — A resident complained about an animal in the 300 block of Grant St. A driver was warned for an equipment violation at US-56 and Timber Rd.
