ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies generally are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
Jan. 12 — A purse found at Casey’s General Store was returned to its owner. A driver was ticketed for making U turns on Main St. Police intervened in a child custody dispute in the 500 block of S. Lincoln St., stood by during a civil matter in the 100 block of N. Wilson St., talked to residents about a city code violation and about registering an all-terrain vehicle, and conferred with Department of Children and Families about an investigation.
Jan. 13 — A possible scam was reported. Residents complained about dogs in the 200 and 500 blocks of S. Lincoln St. Police again met with DCF personnel and again talked about city code violations.
Jan. 14 — Police helped deal with a reportedly intoxicated and suicidal patient at Prairie View mental health center and helped with cattle loose on K-15 north of town. Residents reported finding property and complained about a door-to-door salesman in the 100 block of S. Washington St. and about a dog loose in the 200 block of N. Main St. A driver was ticketed for running a stop sign in the 100 block of E. 2nd St. Another driver was warned about a defective headlight at D and Washington Sts.
Thursday — Police presented a class at Tabor College about identifying scam calls and a Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence class at Hillsboro Elementary. A caller complained about how a vehicle was being driven on US-56, but the vehicle was not found. Police inspected a child car seat. Drivers were warned for having a defective headlight at Willow and Ash Sts. and for not using headlights when needed in the 100 block of N. Ash St.
Friday — Another possible scam was reported. The owner of a vehicle parked in an alley was located, and the vehicle was moved.
Saturday — A wreck at Hillsboro Community Hospital was investigated. Police talked to a resident about a civil property issue and followed up on an investigation with Herington police.
Sunday — The owner of a vehicle left at Casey’s General Store was located, and the vehicle was moved.
MARION
Jan. 12 — Police helped ambulance attendants with a 15-year-old suffering a seizure at Oasis special education school. Trespassing was reported at an undisclosed location on E. Main St. Police helped deputies investigate a wreck west of town on US-56. A driver was warned for speeding on US-56 at Cedar St.
Jan. 13 — What may have been criminal damage to property was reported in the 200 block of S. Freeborn St., but no official report was released. Police helped deal with a natural gas leak in the 200 block of N. Cedar St., helped deputies with a traffic stop on K-150 near the county line, and helped a stranded motorist at US-56 and Timber Rd. A driver was warned for an equipment violation at US-56 and Cedar St.
Jan. 14 — A disturbance was reported at Oasis. A dog loose near Santa Fe and Walnut Sts. was taken to a veterinary clinic. No problems were found after talking to a resident about an unspecified complaint. A driver was warned for speeding at US-56 and Cedar St.
Thursday — Another disturbance was reported at Oasis. No problems were found in checking on a report of a person being followed around town. A driver was warned for an equipment violation at Main and Elm Sts.
Friday — A bonfire was reported on Burbridge St. west of 3rd St. Police helped a driver who locked keys inside a running vehicle.
Saturday — A traffic stop for an equipment violation on US-56 led to an arrest on suspicion of drunken driving and drug possession. Another driver was warned for speeding at US-56 and Timber Rd.
Sunday — Drivers were warned for equipment violations and speeding at Coble and Weldon Sts., US-56 and Timber Rd., and on US-56/77 between 220th and 230th Rds.
