ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
June 29 — A resident reported losing a wallet while bicycling around town. No problems were found in checking on a disconnected 911 call from Hillsboro Industries.
June 30 — An opossum was relocated from the front door of Pizza Hut to an area outside the city. A resident complained about fireworks in the 400 block of S. Ash St. Police patrolled downtown on foot, helped the sheriff’s office serve a legal document, and helped the sheriff’s department of Cass County, Missouri, conduct a background investigation.
July 1 — Door-to-door vendors in the 100 block of S. Birch St. were told to get a city permit. A resident complained about loud motorcycle exhaust near Ash and B Sts. Police helped a woman find her purse at Memorial Park. No problems were found in checking on a reportedly suspicious person outside Dollar General. A disconnected 911 call from the 500 block of Memorial Dr. was determined to be a misdial. Police talked to a resident about a civil matter.
Thursday — Debris was removed from US-56 and Orchard Dr. A resident reported a scam, but no money was lost. A driver was warned for not using headlights. Police received complaints about parking at Bomgaars and at Memorial Park and talked to a resident about a civil matter.
Friday — Police gave a resident a ride home from Hillsboro Community Hospital. No one was located in checking on a disconnected 911 call from the 200 block of Kennedy St.
Independence Day — A custody dispute at Memorial Park was resolved without incident. Suspicious activity was reported near a home in the 300 block of S. Ash St. Warnings were issued for discharging fireworks after midnight. Police talked to a resident about a civil matter.
Sunday — Police investigated damage possibly caused by fireworks to a vehicle in the 300 block of N. Birch St. Ashley Decker, 44, Hillsboro, was removed as an unwanted visitor from a home in the 600 block of S. Lincoln St. and then was arrested on warrants from Marion and Miami counties.
MARION
June 29 — Brian W. Hiebert, 29, Hillsboro, was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and an unidentified controlled substance after a sheriff’s deputy asked for Marion’s drug-sniffing dog to check Hiebert’s vehicle during a traffic stop, no offense report for which has yet been released by the sheriff’s department. Police talked to kids about bicycle safety. A resident reported that mail had been delivered to a wrong address. A driver was warned for speeding at US-56 and Cedar St. No problems were found in checking on a report of suspicious activity in the 500 block of N. Cedar St..
June 30 — Kevin W. Geren, 65, Marion, was ticketed after a dog loose in the 200 block of S. Cedar St. was captured and taken to a veterinary clinic. Two other dogs loose in the 200 block of N. Lincoln St. also were taken to a veterinary clinic. A resident reported a possible scam. Two drivers on Main St. — one at Thorp St. and the other at 3rd St. — received warnings, for speeding in one case and for an equipment violation in the other.
July 1 — Residents were told when fireworks may be discharged. No problems were found in investigating a possible scam reported in the 600 block of N. Cedar St. A driver at Main and Eisenhower Sts. was warned about an unspecified moving violation.
Thursday — Police helped the sheriff’s office take a person to Casey’s General Store. An unspecified resident was ticketed for allowing a dog to run loose.
Friday — No problems were found in checking on multiple complaints in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St. or on a disconnected 911 call from the 300 block of Elm St. Drivers were warned for speeding, an unspecified moving violation, and an equipment violation at Main and Locust Sts., Main and Elm Sts., and US-56 and Timber Rd.
Independence Day — An injured raccoon in the 500 block of N. Cedar St. was killed. Police helped the sheriff’s office investigate a burglar alarm east of Marion on K-256.
Sunday — A resident complained about fireworks being illegally discharged in the 600 block of S. Freeborn St.
