Police bust 6 at party

Several minors had their New Year’s party plans interrupted when Marion police and sheriff’s deputies responded around 11 p.m. at the 300 block of S. Cedar St.

At the scene, police arrested six juveniles on suspicion of minor in consumption and took them to juvenile intake in Junction City. An 18-year-old was cited on suspicion of being a minor in consumption of alcohol and released to parents.

The bust occurred after a concerned parent called Marion Police looking for the parents’ child.

The house where the party was located was the residence of one of the juveniles’ older siblings, city attorney Susan Robson said. No charges will be brought against the sibling, who was not present at the time of the party, according to Robson.

The 18-year-old was released because, although a minor, could not be processed as a juvenile because the law classifies someone 18 and over as an adult, Chief Tyler Mermis said.

Charges of minor in consumption and minor in possession have been filed against all seven arrested. Because the party was not at the home of any of the minors, charges against the parents or homeowners were yet to be determined Tuesday afternoon.
