Police crack down on Marion park vandalism

Marion police are tightening security in Central Park in response to vandalism there.

Multiple small fires have been set in the women’s bathroom sink at the park over the past four months, Chief Clinton Jeffrey said Thursday. Damage from each was minor and was repaired without much trouble.

The city has security cameras outside the bathrooms, but narrowing down the time of the vandalism has proved difficult, Jeffrey said.

To restrict potential vandals, park restrooms will now be locked at 5 p.m. and reopened at 8 a.m.

Jeffrey hopes to find whoever is responsible and seek prosecutiong for the damage caused. He credited the restrooms as a useful and aesthetic resource for Marion and the park.
