Activity reports

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded.

Hillsboro

July21 – Motorists were warned for no lights on a trailer at Orchard Dr. and US-56, and for tail/brake lights out in the 300 block of S. Ash St.

July22 – A suspicious person at 3rd St. and Madison Ave. was investigated, and a blind, loose dog in the 200 block of S. Madison Ave. was returned to its owner. A private property accident was reported at Casey’s General Store, and a harassment complaint was investigated in the 100 block of N. Cedar St.

July 23 – A suspicious person was investigated at Memorial Park, and a person reported a scam attempt. A possible protection order violation was investigated, but the reported person was not in violation. A welfare check was requested, but the person in question was not found.

July24 – Officers returned a lost wallet to its owner. A traffic complaint was reported involving a film project crew. A dog owner reported a lost dog.

July 25 – A person was warned for trespassing in the 300 block of S. Ash St., and officers provided a civil standby in the 200 block of S. Birch St. A cat was caught and released by a neighbor while trying to catch a skunk under the porch.

July26 – A motorist was warned for speeding in the 900 block of E. D St. Children riding bikes on sidewalks downtown and being in the way of pedestrians were reported. A motorist received a citation for speeding on US-56.

July 27 – A false alarm was investigated in the 200 block of Industrial Rd., and a motorist received a citation for speeding. A person received a trespassing warning in the 200 block of S. Ash St., and officers provided a standby for a patient transport to Hillsboro Community Hospital. A possible rape was reported, but was determined to have been consensual, and occurred in another state. A loose dog at the Family Aquatic Center was taken to the vet, and a motorist was warned for a headlight out on US-56.

MARION

July 22 — A person mowing Ann’s Park without permission was warned to stop or charges would be filed. A dog running free in an alley north of the 300 block of E. Main St. was taken to Animal Health Center. A disabled vehicle on 190th Rd. near Remington Rd. was checked.

July 23 — Another dog running free, this one at an undisclosed location, was taken to Animal Health. A motorist was warned for speeding at 2nd and Main Sts.

July 24 — Smoke reported to be coming from Cooperative Grain and Supply turned out to be grain dust. A small electrical fire in a riding mower in the 800 block of Hudson St. was extinguished. Police checked the welfare of a resident in the 800 block of N. Roosevelt St. Motorists were warned for speeding at Main and Lincoln Sts. and for having an improper tail light in the 100 block of S. Freeborn St..

Thursday — A person reported being attacked by a bird. A door-to-door salesman was warned to get a permit. A car parked for several days in the 500 block of S. Roosevelt St. turned out to belong to a new resident of St. Luke Living Center nearby. Police checked the welfare of a resident in the 100 block of Billings St.

Friday — A disturbance in the 200 block of N. Freeborn St. was investigated, but no charges were filed. Motorists were warned for parking in a no-parking zone in the 100 block of N. 3rd St., for making a J-turn on Main St., for having a defective headlight near 3rd and Main Sts., and for having no license plate light at Main and 5th Sts.

Saturday — A hit-and-run driver destroyed a gas meter in the 500 block of N. Cedar St. The incident remains under investigation. A rooster roaming free in the 300 block of N. Roosevelt St. was captured and taken out of town.

Sunday — A person attempting to drop off trash at Marion County transfer station, where only recycling bins were provided after hours, was warned to come back during normal business hours. Police responded to a false alarm from a business in the 1100 block of E. Main St. A motorist was warned about having improper blue lights on the front of a vehicle. A disabled vehicle near US-56 and Cedar St. was checked.

Peabody

July 23 – Officers opened a health and safety investigation in the 200 block of E. Division Ave.
