Police still investigating string of burglaries

Staff writer

Marion police still are investigating a rash of vehicle burglaries reported New Year’s Day.

Five vehicles at four homes in the area of Birch and Lincoln Sts. were burglarized early Jan. 1, officer Zach Hudlin said.

“One person had two vehicles broken into,” he said Monday.

Owners estimated total losses at $5,000. That includes $2,000 in fraudulent purchases made in Emporia with two credit cards pilfered from a vehicle. Emporia police are helping with the investigation. Hudlin declined to provide the names of the burglary victims or specific addresses.

“It was one condensed area,” he said.

The police department has not provided copies of reports about the burglaries. Hudlin said those won’t be available until the investigation is complete. Victim names and addresses are standard information available on police reports.

Hudlin said no other vehicular burglaries had been reported.
