Publisher to collaborate with Dallas newspaper

Publisher Eric Meyer, who when not working here is a tenured journalism professor at the University of Illinois, has been selected by the Scripps-Howard Foundation to serve as a visiting professor of social media for the next two weeks at the Dallas Morning News.

Meyer is among six journalism professors worldwide chosen to consult with leading news organizations as part of a competition conducted by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

He will review social media strategies at the Dallas newspaper and work with Dallas editors when they visit the Illinois campus later this year.

A journalist for more than 40 years, Meyer is a former Page One editor of the Milwaukee Journal and former online publisher of American Journalism Review magazine. He has been a professor since 1996, co-owner of this newspaper since 1998 and its publisher since 2006.

A former associate dean for academic affairs and administration at the College of Media at Illinois, he has been included 14 times on the campus list of instructors rated as excellent by their students and is chairman of an Academic Senate subcommittee that passes judgment on all curricula, majors, and graduation requirements at the university.
