Isn’t it funny how some of us complain when there’s nothing going on in town and then we complain when there is activity?
It’s called human nature and there are times when there’s more human than nature involved.
The talk at the water cooler the past few weeks has been the pain associated with maneuvering street construction, particularly on Eisenhower Drive.
Some concerns have been raised regarding out-of-towners coming to our fair city for ballgames and track meets. Will they know how to get to the fields from other parts of town?
Coming from U.S.-56, visitors can see from the highway that Eisenhower Drive and North Cedar Street are closed. Most visitors know they can get into town from U.S.-77 via U.S.-256/Main Street or U.S.-256/Remington Road to 290th Road to Main Street.
I believe the real issue is signage IN town.
Most travelers will be able to find a way into Marion with or without road construction, but will they be able to find the ball fields?
What about signs directing visitors to the USD 408 Sports and Aquatics Center and the USD 408 Performing Arts Center?
Signs from the highway are important but just as important are signs in town when people find their way here.
We have these incredible facilities but no directions to get to them.
Another suggestion is to put signs actually on the facilities. There are no indicators of the indoor pool/sports center or the performing arts center. I’m sure those are in the plans somewhere and maybe the school district is waiting for them to be delivered. In either case, I hope they are being planned because what’s the use of having a facility if they aren’t identified.
Yes, we have a few things to complain about but mostly we have reasons to be proud.
