Two journalism organizations are selling T-shirts, coffee mugs, stickers, and other swag after a raid of the Marion County Record’s newsroom, the home of its co-owners, and the home of the city’s vice mayor.
Kansas Press Association is selling raid-related products featuring the Record’s first front page after the raid at https://kspress.myspread.com.
Proceeds will go to its foundation.
The Society of Professional Journalists is selling products featuring a quote from Record editor and publisher Eric Meyer: “Come hell or high water, the paper’s coming out.”
Proceeds from those sales will go toward a legal defense fund.
The Record has received more than 1,100 phone calls voicing support of the paper as well as requests for T-shirts. It has sold more than 4,500 new subscriptions — mostly to people who live in other states and signed up for online access.
The newspaper is not selling T-shirts or other products and asks that people who are interested in them deal directly with the organizations selling them.
