Rain puts a damper on garden tour

Rain throughout much of the day Saturday severely cut into attendance at Marion City Library’s annual garden tour fundraiser.

“The gardens were lovely, but due to the weather attendance wasn’t great,” librarian Janet Marler said. “It was very nice even with the small attendance. Everything was so green and lush.”

About 60 people attended the tour. It usually attracts between 150 and 200 people, she said. The crowd still included several out-of-towners, including repeat visitors from Wichita, Salina, and El Dorado.

She said a couple from Wichita asked about antique shops and the thrift store — exactly what she wants to hear to help Marion businesses. She hoped they had time to shop after the tour.
