Resident talks council out of sidewalk
Staff writer
A Hillsboro man who does not want sidewalks added to his side of the street took an opportunity Tuesday to tell city council members how he felt.
“I come to the council to protest any plan by the city council to put in a sidewalk on the west side of the 500 block of S. Wilson St.,” said Dustin Dalke, who lives at 505 S. Wilson St.
A sidewalk on that block was part of the city’s plans for improvements to Adams St.
Dalke recommended the city add sidewalks in other areas of town that need them more than his block does.
After listening, council members decided not to install sidewalk on Dalke’s block but to consider what to do with the savings.
In other business, council members approved a three-year lease with TCW for new security cameras at City Hall, the police department, the pool, the golf course, the sports complex, the splash pad, Gutter Ball lanes, the fairgrounds, the museum, the water building, the electric department, and Memorial Park.
Installation will cost $12,525 and monthly charges will be $1,564.86.
Installation will begin in the next two weeks, Administrator Matt Stiles said.
Council members will discuss strategic planning at 6:30 p.m. May 27.
James Franco, president of Kansas Policy Institute, will speak about the economy April 21.
