Robert McLinden, 86, died Feb. 20 at Peabody Care Center LLC.

He was born April 17, 1926, to Jessie Adams McLinden and Thomas McLinden of Marion.

He married Florence M. Bishop on June 4, 1953, in Emporia. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton. He served a term in the United States Army.

Robert McLinden is survived by Florence, of the home; a daughter, Roberta of Littleton, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Joseph and Cecil, and a sister, Margaret.

A book signing will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Broadway Colonial Funeral home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton. There will also be a recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m.

A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton with Father James Mainzer presiding.

Cremation has taken place. A family inurnment will follow at a later date.

Memorials can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Harden Hospice, or Peabody Care Center/Resident Activities in care of the funeral home.
