Runners are state-bound

Marion’s entire cross-country team is state-bound after running away with a regional runner-up finish Saturday at Tallgrass National Preserve.
Gavin Wasmuth medaled with a fourth place finish. Luke Wessel, Eli Klenda, Christohoher Berry and Tristen Dye also made the top 16 overall.
“To have five in the top 16 at the toughest regional says a lot about the work this group has put in this season and the mindset they have,” coach Jason Hett said. “They have big goals and have strived to go get them every day, and this Saturday we will push this group one more time. I know they are ready.”
The state meet will begin at 12:55 p.m. Saturday at Wamego Country Club. Top 20 individual finishers and top three teams will receive a plaque and medal.
Goessel
Goessel senior Joey Lapp finished 11th at the 1A regional meet Saturday and Karl Raddatz came in 13th.
Both now qualify to compete at state at Wamego.
Lapp’s time was 19:59.00. Raddatz completed the race in 20:09.91.
Javin Schmidt just missed the cut in 17th place with a time of 20:26.82. Aidan Impson finished 41st, and Levi Olson came in 45th.
Goessel boys finished fifth as a team. There were 57 runners in the event.
The Goessel girls team placed sixth. The Bluebirds were led by freshman Delaney Gibson in a time of 23:37.97 in 16th place. Cheyenne Sawyer finished in 28th place, and Braylynn Hoopes came in 38th. Sarah Spurlin came in 46th, Marlene Schueler 50th, and Iradi Amorrortu 51st.
Centre
Centre’s Kaity Bina qualified to run in the state competition Saturday at Wamego.
The sophomore finished 10th in regionals at Bishop Carroll in Wichita.
