Although the annual county health fair will still happen this year, a basics-only version is planned.

Flu shots for people of all ages, blood tests, and free carotid artery screenings will be offered.

Toys for the Marion County Toy Run will be collected again this year.

“Because many residents have come to rely upon the expert, yet inexpensive lab tests provided by St. Luke Hospital and Hillsboro Community Hospital, the planning committee felt compelled to proceed with this ‘minimalist version’ of the health fair for 2020,” coordinator Jessica Gilbert said.

Missing this year will be vendors, prize drawings, helicopters, and events for children.

The changes were made to observe social distancing requirements in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Flu shots available include Fluzone, priced at $30 for ages 6 to 35 months and $40 for ages 3 to 49 years; Flublok for ages 50 to 64 years for $76; and high dose flu shots for seniors 65 and up for $76.

The health department will bill insurance and accept cash or checks.

A limited supply of free vaccinations will be available for uninsured adults.

Masks are required, hand sanitizer will be available, and temperatures will be checked at the door.

Anyone not feeling well is urged not to come.

This year’s health fair will be 8 to 11 a.m. Nov. 7 at USD 408 Sports and Aquatic Center 104 N. Thorp St.
