Marion High School Scholars’ Bowl team compiled of sophomores Dane Purkeypile, E.J. Obermeyer, and Patrick Hodson, and freshmen Beth Nesser and Drew Knolla, took first Nov. 6 at Council Grove.

Marion went 6-1 during the freshmen/sophomore event.

The Warriors defeated Northern Heights (60-40) before losing to Osage City (50-40).

The team then went on a five-match winning streak defeating Wamego (80-30), Centre (70-30), Herington (90-20), Lyndon (90-30), and West Franklin (100-15).

Top scorers were Purkeypile and Hodson with 180 and 170 point respectively.

Obermeyer tallied 90 points, Knolla 80, and Nesser had 10.

“Everyone contributed with the scoring and they all worked well together,” coach Doug Vogel said.
