Schools to start between Aug. 14 and 21

Staff writer

With summer break more than halfway over for most Marion County students, school is right around the corner.

Enrollment dates, procedures, and projected student numbers vary across the county.

Centre

Centre will likely see a slight drop in enrollment this year, USD 397 Superintendent Brian Smith said. The decrease can be attributed to a larger senior class graduating and a smaller kindergarten incoming.

USD 397 online enrollment starts Aug. 4 and continues through Aug. 11.

Parents of new students or anyone needing assistance with scheduling or online enrollment may enroll from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 6 in the school’s commons area and library.

Classes will begin Aug. 14.

Goessel

According to USD 411 Superintendent John Fast, Goessel plans to see a modest increase of about four or five students up from 282 last year.

Enrollment for the USD 411 2014-15 school year will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 12 and from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 13.

Kindergarten through fifth grade enrollment will be at Goessel Elementary School and grade six through 12 will be at Goessel Junior High / High School.

Mail-in enrollment is also available.

Classes will commence Aug. 28.

Hillsboro

With a larger kindergarten coming in and having graduated a smaller senior class, Hillsboro is planning for an increased head count of about 14 K-12 students.

USD 410 Superintendent Steve Noble estimated Hillsboro’s enrollment this year to be at about 554 students.

Online enrollment for all returning students will be Aug. 5 through Aug. 12 at www.usd410.net.

New parents or those needing assistance can get it from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at elementary, middle, and high school building offices.

School will begin Aug 21.

Marion

With a larger class of about 48 kindergarten students coming in, Marion’s overall enrollment also might be up from last year’s K-12 head count of 506 students.

USD 408 enrollment will be from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 5 in the Marion Middle School commons area.

Eighth graders start class Aug. 15. All other grades start Aug 14.

Peabody-Burns

Peabody-Burns enrollment should be down from 260 last year to about 250.

USD 398 Superintendent Ron Traxson said the district was about ten students away from dropping below 100 students in grades 9 through 12.

That would drop the high school from Class 2A to Class 1A.

Enrollment for USD 398 will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 7 and from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 8 in Brown Gymnasium at Peabody-Burns High School.

Offices will be closed from noon to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 7.

The first day of class will be Aug. 20.
