Richard and Margie (Bernhardt) Schwartz, 4 Hill Rd., Marion County Lake, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.

Dick, originally from Leavenworth, and Margie, from Marion, met while Dick was a star athlete at Ottawa University.

They married Aug. 9, 1959, at what at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Marion, now Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

After graduation, Dick served for 30 years in the Marine Corps, retiring as a colonel.

The couple has a son, Thane, of Marion; a daughter, Peri Ann, of Chesapeake, Virginia; five grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration is planned later.
