Scouts fill potholes

Marion Boy Scouts Troop 102 Life Scouts Adam Molleker and Charles Stuchlik led volunteer crews in an effort to fill potholes and washouts along residents’ access roads Oct. 30 at Marion County Park and Lake.

Molleker and Stuchlik divided the project, with Molleker leading crews on the east side and Stuchlik leading crews on the west side. The project was the scouts’ Eagle Scout service project

Volunteers had 24 tons of gravel to fix the roads and used every stone.

“What a pleasant surprise Marion County Lake residents had when we witnessed a number of young men spreading much needed rock on our roads,” lake resident Cara Stockdale said, who said she spoke on behalf of lake residents. “The Boy Scout troop should be publicly thanked for doing that work, free of charge.

“We trust you scouts will be blessed with your Eagle Scout designation as we enjoy the improved road conditions this winter,” Stockdale said.

Dillon Richmond will be the next scout set to lead a service project. He plans to add handicap access to curbs in Marion.

Several other scouts are also looking for project ideas. Anyone with suggestions can call Chris or Melissa Stuchlik at (620) 924-5793.
