September 1 Apartments remodel to begin soon

Staff writer

Homestead Affordable Housing closed Dec. 2 on the September 1 Apartments. According to Homestead President and CEO Tom Bishop, residents can expect to see remodel work to begin as soon as he can get mobilized.

“We expect things to move very quickly and construction and upkeep for existing duplexes to begin within the next few weeks after closing,” he said. “We’ll start with demolition and removing and replacing things almost immediately.

“We are installing completely handicap accessible bathrooms in every apartment, so we’ll be installing those things first,” he said. “Pads for private outdoor patios for every apartment will also be poured if weather allows.”

Homestead is covering moving costs for residents to help make the remodel as seamless as possible. Bishop said the company will begin remodeling the apartments in 1/3 increments so residents already in apartments will only have to move once.

“Less people will be affected this way,” Bishop said.
