Sergeant promoted

After nearly 20 years with the Marion County sheriff’s office, sergeant Larry R. Starkey was appointed undersheriff last week.

He replaces David Huntley, who retired June 30.

Sheriff Robert Craft said other good candidates had applied.

“I had a couple others here who were highly qualified and capable,” Craft said. “I had interest from some outside who were highly qualified and capable. Not that any of them would have been a bad choice, but I felt he was the best choice.”

Craft said Starkey had an outstanding record. He was a Peabody officer before joining the sheriff’s department.

“He brings a lot of good work ethics, knowledge, and skill sets to this position,” Craft said.
