Marion Middle School seventh-grade scholars’ bowl team began its season by placing second out of nine teams at the Hutchinson Trinity Junior High Invitational on Monday.
The Wildcats posted a 7-1 record. They defeated Inman I, 40-30; Inman II, 50-10; Remington, 50-40; Moundridge, 50-10; Hesston, 40-30; Hutch Trinity I, 30-20; and Hutch Trinity II, 30-20. Their lone loss was against Andale, 40-30, in the championship match.
Reann Hamm scored 140 points for the team. Elizabeth Meyer and Bailey Robson each scored 50, and Austin Molleker and Emily Schneider each scored 40.
The eighth-grade team posted a 2-6 record in their division, with wins against Remington, 50-20, and Hesston, 50-20. Their losses were against Inman I, 40-30; Inman II, 40-30; Moundridge, 60-40; Andale, 70-20; Hutch Trinity I, 60-20; and Hutch Trinity II, 40-30.
Austin Hacker led the team, scoring 150 points. Kaylie Waner scored 110, and Dakota Funk scored 10 points. Seventh-graders Shyla Harris, Ally Boyd, and Kayle Stapleford filled out the rest of the eighth-grade team but did not score.
The team’s next competition is Feb. 24 at Inman Middle School, followed by Berean Academy on Feb. 28. Marion will host a tournament March 29.
