Sharon Suderman
Services for Sharon Kay Suderman, 73, who passed away Feb. 8, 2025, at home, will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2024, at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church.
Committal services will be at 10 a.m. in the Ebenfeld cemetery.
Sharon’s family will gather with relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
Her life began June 15, 1951, at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro. Her parents were Roger and Edna (Schmidt) Hiebert.
Sharon attended grade school in Enterprise and Newton before her family moved back to Hillsboro. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1969.
After high school, Sharon attended cosmetology school in Salina.
She was united in marriage with Ronald Ray Suderman on April 28, 1972, at First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro. Together they shared more than 49 years of marriage before Ron’s passing in December, 2021.
Sharon provided for her family in many ways. She worked in food service at restaurants and at Tabor College and as a crop insurance agent and eventually started working in the educational system, first as a paraeducator and then as director of Marion County Learning Center.
It was during her tenure at the learning center that Sharon decided to go back to college to earn her associate’s degree from Butler Community College.
Of all her roles, Sharon treasured being a wife, mother, and grandmother most.
As an adult, she recommitted her life to Christ and was baptized May 20, 2012, by Pastor Gaylord Goertzen. It was a truly special occasion as she got to share her baptism with her daughter, Diane.
Sharon was not afraid to share her faith with anyone and spent many hours studying the Bible and reading devotionals from Dr. David Jeremiah and Dr. Charles Stanley.
Sharon enjoyed watching game shows, tending to her flowers, and spending quality time with relatives and friends. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Her favorite pastime was talking about her grandchildren. There was always a story about how smart, beautiful, and talented each one of her grandchildren was.
She always was up for a good laugh, and her personality was such that strangers quickly became friends. She will be greatly missed.
Her greatest joy was her family, including her children Dan (and wife Becky) Suderman of Peabody, Diane (and husband Mike) Meisinger of Hillsboro, and Nichole (and husband Randy) Hendrickson of Pretty Prairie; grandchildren Chase, Callie, and Kenzie Meisinger; Madeline and Ella Suderman, and Grace, Emma, Kate, and Josie Hendrickson; siblings Ron (and wife Pam) Hiebert and Karen (and husband Tim) Marlar; and sister-in-law Elva Suderman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Donita Hiebert; and her husband, Ron Suderman.
Memorial contributions in Sharon’s name may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church.
