Shirley Rock

Shirley A. Rock, 80, of Herington died Feb. 4 at Salem Home in Hillsboro. She was born July 14, 1933, in Herington and raised by her mother, Helen (Reissig), and stepfather Francis D. Singleton.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington, where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She graduated from Herington High School in 1951.

She married Cecil D. Rock on June 3, 1951, in Herington. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael.

She is survived by three daughters, Denise Welsh of Raytown, Mo., Marcella Vega of Kansas City, Mo., and Tina Novak of Hillsboro; a son, Raymond Rock of Russell; a half-brother, John Singleton of Ellington, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was Monday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Troy Slater officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington Chapel.

A memorial fund has been established with Salem Home of Hillsboro.
