Ty Simons of Lincolnville, a May graduate of Centre High School, has signed a scholarship with Hutchinson Community College to play basketball.

Simons was a member of an Amateur Athletic Union traveling team based in Garden City this summer.

Simons was the leading scorer last season at Centre, where he was known for his quickness.

Simons said his AAU coach introduced him to the Hutchinson coach. After the HCC coach viewed a few tapes of Simons in action, he offered him a scholarship.

Simons does not know if he will play much this year, but he plans to use his first season to build strength and sharpen his skills.

Simon’s twin sister, Cacey, will be playing basketball at Sterling College.

“I’m glad Ty and Cacey will be close to one another, since they have always been so close,” their mother, Sharon Simons, said.
