Special Olympics basketball players shoot for gold

Residents of Hillsboro will not have to travel to Sochi to see an Olympic athlete compete this weekend.

A Special Olympics basketball tournament will be from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Tabor College’s gym and student activity center.

More than 175 athletes, including some local athletes, will be competing. The tournament is to give teams needed game experience before competing at the Kansas Special Olympics State Tournament in March at Fort Hays State University.

Tabor College and Hillsboro Kiwanis have sponsored the tournament for 25 years.
