Bill and Cathy Fish of Hillsboro estimate that they began going to t-ball games in 1988, and have kept busy with sports ever since.
“Our vacations are going to ballgames,” Bill Fish said.
Their youngest son, Jacob, is 17 and on Hillsboro’s senior Babe Ruth baseball team. The team will play this weekend in state tournament in Independence.
In addition to baseball, Bill and Cathy Fish have seen more football and basketball games, and track meets than they can remember.
“We don’t miss too many,” Cathy Fish said. “That’s one thing we’ve tried not to do.”
Baseball in particular has sent them throughout Kansas in different conditions. They have been to summer tournaments from Garden City to Fort Scott and watched games in temperatures from 20 to 116 degrees, Bill Fish said.
“We’ve been to a lot of places we otherwise wouldn’t,” Cathy Fish said.
It is still a while away, but they hope to take some vacations away from sports after Jacob is finished playing sports.
“I’ll miss some of it, but not the four nights a week thing,” Cathy Fish said.
