State will pay for majority of bridge

Public meeting set county lake regulations

Staff writer

Marion County will be responsible for only 10 percent of the costs to replace a bridge on a county road.

That was the news Marion County Commission heard Monday from Peggy Blackman, Marion County WRAPS coordinator.

Ninety percent of the cost to replace a bridge will be provided through a grant program.

The bridge is located a mile west of Durham and the property belongs to Dennis Youk of Marion.

Evidently there was an agreement between Youk and the county to maintain the now low-maintenance road so Youk can get to his fields.

Construction of the bridge won’t begin until 2009.

  • A public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at the lake hall regarding rules and regulations at Marion County Park & Lake. Superintendent Steve Hudson told the commission he was running low on brochures which means more need to be made. Before additional brochures are made, he wants to review the regulations and make some changes. The new brochures will include information about zebra mussels.
  • Hudson reported there are 21 members of the heated dock lounge. Lockers have been installed and he noted that one-third of the members are from out-of-county.
