Stolen truck leads to gun, drug bust

Staff writer

A search warrant issued to recover a pickup stolen from Marion resulted in the arrest Saturday of a Peabody couple on charges of criminal possession of firearms, methamphetamines, and drug paraphernalia.

David Orcutt, 61, and his wife Debbie Orcutt, 62, were arrested late Saturday afternoon at their home at 907 N. Locust St. in Peabody.

Nine law enforcement officers from the Marion and Peabody police departments served them with a search warrant for the recovery of stolen property.

“Friday we had a report of a stolen pickup that was found down in Peabody by the person who owned the vehicle,” Marion Police Chief Tyler Mermis said. “When he saw it it was stripped — it was just the frame, the motor, and the cab.”

When the officers entered the residence, they discovered other items of interest.

“Upon execution of the search warrant, officers plain-viewed illegal substances in the residence,” Peabody Police Chief Bruce Burke said. “Another search warrant was applied for and obtained to search for illegal substances and associated drug paraphernalia.”

Mermis said it took about two hours to get the second warrant.

Police arrested the couple and they were booked into Marion County Jail. Each was charged with possession of methamphetamines, possession of methamphetamines with intent to distribute or sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, and no drug tax stamp.

In addition, David Orcutt was charged with theft and as a felon in possession of firearms.
