Stop sign destroyed by allegedly drunken driver

Staff writer

Randall Kahns, 59, of Lincolnville, was arrested at 4 p.m. Saturday after allegedly snapping off a stop sign with his vehicle at the “three mile corner” at K-256/190th Rd. and US-77.

Kahns was charged with driving under the influence after an investigation, Sheriff Rob Craft said.

According to radio transcripts, an off-duty El Dorado police officer spotted Kahns at the site of the accident.

Kahns continued driving north from the scene until deputies Mike Ottensmeier and Bronson Shipman pulled him over. He was allegedly driving about 20 mph on the shoulder of the road near milepost 311.

Officers arrested Kahns after discovering multiple open containers of alcohol in his vehicle.

Kansas Department of Transportation installed a temporary stop sign at the accident site a couple hours after the incident.
