Student places 3rd in state essay contest
Graduating senior Laura Savage Marion placed third in Kansas Masonic Foundation’s essay contest, receiving a $2,000 scholarship for her essay on serving local communities.
Her essay argued in favor of mandatory community service for high school students.
Savage’s entry was submitted to the state contest after she won a $400 scholarship in Florence Masonic Lodge 114’s essay contest.
The scholarship check will be presented to Savage Feb. 7 at Marion Performing Arts Center.
Kansas Masonic Essay Contest is eligible for high school juniors and seniors attending public school, and is in its 60th year.
