Sammy Fugitt and Shonda Ratzloff decided they wanted to spend their first day of summer break swimming at USD 408 Sports and Aquatic Center, but they didn’t have enough money.
To earn money for swimming, they decided to start a drink stand at Marion Central Park. They set up their stand about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, selling tropical punch and lemon-lime soft drinks. They made the drinks from mix at home.
Business was brisk. By 1:30 p.m. they sold enough drinks to thirsty customers — mostly their friends — to pay for swimming.
They had already sold out of fruit punch, but they wanted to sell the last of their lemon-lime drink before closing shop.
Sammy and Shonda said they probably will reopen the stand. After all, they like going swimming.
