Success is a team effort

Contributions aren’t always obvious on stat sheets

“I’ve never been the one that scores 15 or 20 points,” Marion guard Bridget Lundy said. “I think that people see Julia (Zeiner) and Lindsay (Hett) and say Bridget is the weak one of all the seniors and all the starters.”

Lundy’s main statistical moment in the blowout victory, 70-30, over Halstead on Friday was a wide-open 3-pointer. Marion High School Head Coach Randy Savage got Lundy the ball after he had seen the Dragons sag off Lundy to guard other more threatening Warriors.

But Lundy and Kristen Steinborn are two versatile perimeter defenders. Steinborn and Lundy may not get the consistent steals of teammate Hett, but the pressure they put on opposing ball handlers creates turnovers.

Lundy and Steinborn were part of a Warrior defensive effort that held Halstead to 3 points in the first quarter.

Steinborn and Lundy also keep things light in the Warrior locker room. Lundy said that the whole team jokes around, but that Steinborn is the funniest player on the team.

The Warriors put together a dominant performance against Halstead on the heels of a lopsided defeat at the hands of Wichita Collegiate Tuesday. Marion was determined to come out strong against the Dragons to avoid another letdown like in the second half against the Spartans.

“We wished we could have played (Collegiate) again that night,” Lundy said, “especially after the way we played in the first half.”
