EXPANDED EULOGIES

Susan Unruh

Susan K. Unruh went to her heavenly home Sept. 8, 2022.

She was born July 7, 1962, in Springfield, Missouri, the youngest of four children of Garland O. and Marilyn Unruh.

Susan was born with Down Syndrome, and doctors were not optimistic about her possible length of life and future abilities.

Susan graduated in 1980 in Springfield, Missouri. She moved to Marion in 1984 and began participating, through Newton, in Special Olympics from 1985 to 1991.

She excelled in track and field events and swimming and helped her cheerleading squad bring home a state championship. She amassed numerous medals and ribbons from these events.

Susan began working in 1992 at Stone City Café and retired in 2010. Her ability to work and live in Marion was due in no small part to residents always providing a safe and supportive environment for her to be as independent as possible.

Susan was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church until her death.

Susan was preceded in death by both her parents; her older sister, Karen; her grandparents; and a nephew, Specialist Robert O. Unruh.

She is survived by stepmother Frances Unruh of Springfield, Missouri; sister Nanette Lowry (and husband Gale) of Marion; brothers Steve Unruh of Marion; Craig Taylor (and wife Gail) of Strafford, Missouri; Marvin Taylor (and wife Gwen), also of Strafford, Missouri; and Rick Taylor (and wife Twyla) of Holbrook, Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A memorial fund has been set up at Emmanuel Baptist Church to be given to Marion Elementary School to help pay students’ lunch accounts.
