David Janzen, M.S., Ph.D., has been selected as Tabor’s 14th president, commencing July 1.

He will succeed Jules Glanzer, who is retiring after more than 13 years.

He serves as professor and software engineering coordinator in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California.

Janzen has a long list of achievements since he graduated from Tabor in 1990. He is the co-founder of Steadfast Innovation LLC, which created the handwriting, note-taking application, Squid, for Android and ChromeOS pen-based devices.

Janzen was an adjunct teacher at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, and worked in software at Sprint. He taught at Bethel College and the University of Kansas. He received his master’s and doctorate degrees in computer science during his stay in Lawrence.

Janzen grew up at Independence and Enid, Oklahoma. His wife, Karen, attended Tabor, as did their four parents and all of their siblings. Their oldest son, Alexander, graduated from Tabor in 2017.

“Many immediate and extended family members are so excited about our Tabor connections,” Janzen said. “Many of them have gone to Tabor, and there is a genuine excitement for us taking this role, and that is so encouraging to me.”

Tabor board of directors chair Susan Koslowsky said the board has confidence in Janzen’s leadership.

“David’s passion for Tabor and his love for the Lord are evident,” she said.

Janzen described his upcoming role as Tabor president as a “purposeful and God-honoring adventure.”

“We are excited and passionate about the mission of Tabor, and we pray that God will glorify Himself through this important work,” he said.
