Tabor sophomore to stress mental health as Miss Kansas

Staff writer

Tabor sophomore Hannah Klaassen, 19, hopes to increase awareness of mental health issues and raise money for Children’s Miracle Network during her year as Miss Kansas.

Klaassen, a psychology major, said Tuesday that she wanted to emphasize what people can do to maintain their own mental health and where to find help if they need it.

The Miss Kansas competition was not her first pageant experience.

“I did the Miss Teen pageant when I was 16,” Klaassen said. “After that year I aged out and would have to go in the Miss Kansas competition, and I decided to wait and go when I was ready.”

Klaassen’s grandparents, Jack and Laverna Braun and Jeanie Klaassen, live in Hillsboro.

She also will also represent Kansas Sept. 9 at the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City.
