Take lesson on giving

Pearl Baxter was a generous person. Her generosity will be appreciated for years to come in Marion as her trustees finish the final distribution of her estate.

She gave money to the church she attended, the hospital that served her, the library that provided her hours of reading enjoyment, and the airport she and her husband George patronized when they were active with the Flying Farmers organization.

We could all learn a lesson from the Baxters in giving back to our communities.

We may not have as much wealth as they had but even sharing some would help.

There is a way to keep money right here in Marion — Marion Advancement Campaign. The foundation could accommodate such bequeaths. Originally, MAC was created to develop a movie theater and civic center. When those plans didn’t work out, the group decided to spearhead the renovation of the city auditorium.

With the project nearing completion, members of MAC should be extremely proud of their accomplishments. It should also be an incentive to the community to remember MAC in their wills and estates.

Most of us don’t have the resources to pay for the renovation of a building but together we can do more community projects.

Wouldn’t that be great?
