Tale of the top tapers

There weren’t a lot of entries or a lot of spectators for this year’s inaugural duct tape competition at the Marion County Fair Friday evening but the entries were at the top of the game.

Since Kansas State Fair began the new competition, county fair organizers decided to include the open competition in its lineup.

There were three categories, hat, clothing, and wallet or purse, with a total of eight entries.

Contestants were given instructions and tape, and had 24 hours to complete their masterpieces.

Seth Banning of Florence was the top winner for a pink and black purse that included a strap and clasp. Laird Goertzen of Goessel will take his flip-flops to the state fair, and the name of the first-place winner for hat design was unavailable at press time. Judge Caitlyn Conley of Salina selected the top entries.
