Jiraks welcome new granddaughters

Francis and Mary Jirak are the proud grandparents of two new granddaughters. Abigail Margaret Gear was born July 17 to Travis and Maria Gear of Wichita. She weighed 9 pounds, 9 ounces and was 21 inches long. Siblings welcoming her to the family are Felicity, Bridget, and Patrick. Margaret Mary Jirak was born July 18 to Albert and Teresa Jirak. She weighed 4 pounds, 15 ounces, and measured 18½ inches long. She is welcomed by siblings Blaise, Gabriel, Augustine, Josephine, and Bernadette.

A good-sized crowd attended farmer’s market July 18 where the Tampa Triple T’s 4-H club served a meal and displayed some of their projects in a mini-fair.

Heather Poland of Wichita spent July 17 with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, Susie, Cecilia, and Julie.

Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene on July 17 and accompanied Connie Thompson and Allison Sluder to Salina for some appointments and shopping. Doug Thompson and Jeremy Sluder joined them for dinner out in celebration of the Sluders’ wedding anniversary.

Lynn and Peggy Kleiber of Salina were July 15 visitors of Leona Kleiber. They helped her with some chores.

Those helping Edna Backhus celebrate her birthday with dinner out July 15 were Mike and Jennifer Jay and Cody of Hillsboro, Bev and Tom Reid of Marion, Paul Backhus, Brad Backhus, Jason Backhus and Alisha Barney. After dinner, they went to Paul and Edna’s home, where they ate ice cream cake and watched Edna open up her gifts.

Craig and Teresa Srajer of Moline, Ill., spent the weekend visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole.

Leo and Sue Yanda went to Fayetteville, Ark., over the weekend to visit her parents Everett and Billie Smith, and to help her mother celebrate her 86th birthday.

Alex Hajek took first place in bull riding at the Tri-County Fair rodeo last week.

Overnight guests of Jerry and Jeanne Rziha, Susie, Cecilia and Julie on July 16 were Benny and Michelle Perez of Boston, Va.

Glenn Kerbs of Dodge City was a July 14 overnight guest of his mother, Lucille Kerbs. On Sunday they attended the Gooding reunion at the Marion County Lake hall.

Leona Kleiber and her granddaughter, Andrea Klenda of Pilsen, enjoyed breakfast in Durham on July 14.

Paul and Edna Backhus, Jason Backhus and Alisha Barney attended the Tri-County Fair in Herington on July 12.

Lucille Kerbs met Elmer Gooding, Denise McClain, Macy and Emery of Tempe, Ariz., and Clayton Faulkner of Queen Creek, Ariz., July 14 in Hillsboro for dinner out.
