Dan Holub, Marion County Commissioner, came Sept. 8 to the Tampa City Council meeting to hear any concerns involving the county. The meeting had been postponed from the first to the second Monday, because of the Labor Day holiday.
“I’m trying to see if we can get some state help for the road out to K-15,” Holub stated. “Chip and seal just isn’t going to fly.”
Paul Backhus asked if they would put a culvert across the road, so water from a heavy rain could drain down the north ditch instead of flooding the town.
Holub said he would talk to the road foreman about this concern and see that they put in the culvert. “If we’re doing these roads, we’d just as well get some good tubes in.”
“We’ve got to do some culvert work,” Backhus commented. There was some discussion of culverts which need to be replaced, but no definite action was taken.
Bills approved for payment included $55.40 to Kansas Corrections for a sign to post at the burn pile telling citizens what is and is not acceptable for hauling to the burn pile, $256.12 for hauling rock, $65.50 for Rural Water Association dues, and $550 for hauling off ashes from the burn pile.
Since two council members were absent and there was little business to conduct, the meeting was short.
