Thousands attend annual celebration

It was another Old Settlers’ Day weekend in Marion with class members gathering for reunions.

Sponsored by Marion Kiwanis Club, the theme of this year’s parade was “Boy Scouts: 100 years of Scouting” with local Boy and Girls Scouts participating.

Float participants included those classes celebrating reunions, high school classes, churches, and community entities.

Following the parade, Kiwanians served a picnic lunch in Central Park. Traditional Old Settlers’ Day games were played, Marion High School band performed, and classes were introduced.

Next year’s celebration will be the 100th-year for Old Settlers’ Day and Marion’s 150th anniversary. Special events are being planned throughout 2011, culminating at the September celebration.
