Thousands flock to Arts and Crafts Fair

Staff writer

There will be no driving Saturday on Hillsboro’s Main St. or Grand Ave. The streets will teem with too many pedestrians.

The nationally known annual Hillsboro Arts and Crafts Fair brings so many people to town that shoppers are elbow to elbow to examine and buy goods.

Attendance is typically 40,000.

Last year, 180 vendors of arts, crafts, and food items served shoppers so intent on finding items they wanted that many pulled wagons behind them.

Vendors come from far and wide. Would-be exhibitors from across the nation are chosen by a committee of judges.

Food vendors include Hillsboro’s famous smoked sausage, bierocks, zwieback, kettle corn, verenika, roasted almonds, fresh-squeezed lemonade, and funnel cakes.

Categories in the arts and crafts fair are garden art, wood crafts, jewelry, gifts, seasonal décor items, bath and spa, clothing, and baby and children items.
