Tillie Hein to celebrate 102 years Monday

The birthdays come and go for Tillie Hein of Tampa. She will be 102 years old Monday.
“I hope to live until my birthday,” she said six days ago. “I said, no more birthday parties. I’ve had enough of them.”
Nevertheless, the spirited woman is excited about a family get-together Sunday in Manhattan. She expects to see relatives from as far away as Kansas City, Denver, and Illinois.
Hein continues to live on the farm two miles north of Tampa and maintains a social life.
She and three friends travel together to various social functions including senior citizen meetings and other events at Tampa and card playing once a month at Ramona.
Hein recently attended the 50th anniversary celebration in Marion of the Senior Citizens of Marion County.
She still has an active driver’s license and sometimes drives as far as Hillsboro.
She is thankful for the help and friendship of her grandson, Jimmy Srajer, and his family, who live a few miles away. They take her to doctor’s appointments, sports and school activities, and family events.
Complaining of back problems that have developed in the past few months, Hein said she is planning to cut back on her activities.
“I’m content here at home,” she said. “I have things I can do at home to keep me busy.”
Cards may be sent to her at 3448 Limestone Road, Tampa KS 67483.
