Training offered for farmers markets
Gardeners and farmers who want to be part of a program that markets produce to seniors can learn more by taking an online training course.
The Kansas Senior Farmers Market Program issues vouchers to seniors, who use them at farmers markets to purchase produce from authorized vendors.
Vendors are paid by Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
To be authorized as a KSFMNP vendor, growers need to complete a one hour online training course and submit an authorized farmers agreement.
Upcoming online trainings are available at 9 a.m. today, 5 p.m. May 13, and noon May 25 at www.kdheks.gov/sfmnp.
After training, vendors are given a sign to let seniors know their farmer market checks can be used at designated market stalls.
Anyone with questions about being a vendor can contact Marion County Department on Aging at (620) 382-3580.
