Trojan volleyball team finishes 3rd in state

Hillsboro finished third Saturday in the Class 2A state volleyball tournament at Dodge Ciy.

Hillsboro finished pool play Friday 2-1, beating Humboldt in two sets and Rossville in three sets. The Trojans’ only loss Friday was against Ellinwood in two sets.

In semifinals Saturday, the Trojans lost to Valley Heights’ in two sets, bumping them down to the consolation game against Jefferson County North

The Trojans beat Jefferson County North, 25-16 and 25-14, to capture third place.

Hillsboro finishes the season 35-11. The Trojans will be graduating seven seniors from their line-up.

Goessel

Goessel’s young volleyball team got to experience the environment surrounding the state tournament at Dodge City.

On Thursday, the fifth-seeded Bluebirds took on the fourth-seeded team from Centralia.

Goessel let a 14-11 lead slip away in the first set and lost 25-20, In the second set, Goessel played from behind, tying the game at 14-14, but the Panthers went on a rally and finished the set winning 25-18.

For the fourth time this season, Goessel faced No. 1 seed Little River. The result this time was the same as the previous three, with Little River winning 25-15, 25-13.

In the final match of the tournament for both teams, Goessel faced eighth-seeded Frankfort.

The Bluebirds came from behind to tie the score 10-10 and went on to win 25-18. Goessel never trailed in the second set. The Wildcats got as close as 20-17, but Goessel took advantage of Frankfort errors to win 25-18.

Little River and Centralia finished first and second, respectively.

Goessel’s season ended with a record of 32-12.

All-league honors

Marion senior Hailey Harshman was selected for the second team of the 2025 Heart of American volleyball all-league team.

She averaged 2.2 kills per set and a 0.124 hitting percentage.She finished this season with 23 blocks, 244 assists, and 145 kills according to maxpreps stats.

Kingzley Ratzlaff, Lauryn Vogt, and Amyah Werth were named to the Central Kansas Volleyball All-League first team. Talia Jost received honorable mention.
