Trojans fall short at substate

Staff writer

Hillsboro’s girls basketball team was eliminated from postseason play March 5, losing 43-33 to eventual substate champions Moundridge.

“It did not end the way we wanted it to, but it wasn’t because of lack of effort,” coach Micah Ratzlaff said. “We defended really well in the first half, only allowing 14 points and leading at halftime by four.”

Amyah Werth led the team with 13 points. Talia Jost scored six, and Daisy Klein scored five.

“The third quarter hurt us, and we let their pressure really get to us,” Ratzlaff said. “Once the momentum switched, we just couldn’t get it back.”

Hillsboro finishes the season 13-8.

“This team had an amazing season with the toughest schedule of any 2A team,” Ratzlaff said. “The one thing I love about this team is they just show up and play, coachable, and very unselfish. There was not a single game this year where I thought we just didn’t show up.”
